ABSTRACT
Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) has emerged as a powerful and high-throughput technology for the rapid and comprehensive detection of plant viruses. Unlike conventional diagnostic methods that require prior knowledge of viral pathogens, NGS enables the identification of both known and novel viruses directly from infected plant tissues. By generating millions of sequence reads, NGS facilitates viral genome reconstruction, characterization of mixed infections, and detection of divergent or emerging viral strains. Its application has significantly improved plant virus surveillance, epidemiological studies, and disease management. Integration of NGS with advanced bioinformatics tools further enhances sequence analysis, pathogen identification, and phylogenetic investigation. Despite challenges related to cost, data processing, and standardization, NGS represents a transformative approach for early and accurate plant virus diagnosis and offers substantial opportunities for sustainable crop protection and biosecurity.
